Action Housing

Action Housing is a key non-profit tackling housing insecurity by developing affordable housing, offering rental/mortgage assistance, providing weatherization, and running supportive programs like for youth aging out of foster care to increase housing stability and neighborhood revitalization. They offer rental assistance, down payment help, mortgage counseling, home repair grants (like HAP), and free energy upgrades, aiming to make housing affordable and sustainable for vulnerable populations in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.

For the Rental Assistance Program (which is for people who are facing eviction), applicants should go to their Housing Stabilization Center at 415 7th Ave in Downtown Pittsburgh (zip code: 15291). They are open Monday-Thursday from 9:30am – 4pm. In order to get into this program you should call the main number for more information, or go in person to apply.

For individuals with physical disabilities, they have a Housing Connector program. Call their main number for a referral and to schedule an appointment.

The My Place Program is for youth who are aging out of the foster care program. It is a referral based program and Sharon Langford is the program director (slangford@actionhousing.com)

Action Housing also has free single room occupancy at their three locations. The Wood Street Commons location currently has a waitlist and proof of income is required. Center Avenue Housing is another location. Their McKeesport Housing is an income based facility, but you need a referral from Allegheny Link for free services.
