Public Defender Trial Skills Annual Bring Your Own Case (“BYOC”) Conference in Carlisle, Pennsylvania each summer.
About the Conference: This is a theory of defense based training. Each participant must bring their own case to workshop throughout the training. Participants will learn skills and practice: Brainstorming Narrative and Theory of Defense, Voir Dire, Opening Statements, Cross Examination, Direct Examination, and Closing Arguments. We will also be offering programing regarding Public Defender wellness, and tools to sustain ourselves in the work.
Who Should Register: This training is designed for Defender Attorneys ranging from novice to moderate level of experience handling trials. Our target audience is an attorney who has tried 0-10 jury trials. Each attorney must have an active case that they can bring to the training to workshop.
Hotel and Tuition Information: PDAP will cover the cost of lodging, breakfast, lunch, tuition, and CLE credits for all participants. The BYOC Conference usually takes place during the summer at Dickinson College in their Althouse Hall. Programming begins each day around 8:30 am and conclude around 5:00.
