I’m Elizabeth Vanier, Assistant Public Defender at the Centre County Public Defender’s Office. I have been at this office for just over a year now. I handle a full adult case load, as well as being hired to be the primary appellate attorney of my office. Prior to joining the Centre County Public Defender’s Office, I clerked for three years in Mifflin County for President Judge Barron and Judge Gingrich.
I moved to Pennsylvania to attend Penn State Law in 2016 from Washington State. I attended Washington State University where I received a BA in Philosophy prior to moving to Pennsylvania. I applied to law school intent on becoming a public defender to better represent communities most affected by a lack of services and resources which often lead to incarceration. During my clerkship, I drafted numerous opinions, and developed my passion for criminal appellate work.
Our mission is to provide tools, strategies, mutual support, training and information to Public Defender Offices in Pennsylvania; to be the voice of public defense in Pennsylvania; and to promote best practices in the leadership, management, and administration of justice in Pennsylvania.
