I am Alicia Baatz and I have been a Public Defender for 18 ½ years. I worked in Bucks County for 12 of those years, doing everything from initial client interviews at the Correctional Facility to preliminary hearings, bench warrants, contempt hearings, VOPs and misdemeanor and felony jury trials. Working with kids is my passion and I was lucky enough to work in juvenile court often. I grew up in Allentown, went to Penn State (Altoona, then Main Campus), and Widener Law in Wilmington, DE. I came back home after a position opened up in the Juvenile Division of the Lehigh County Public Defender’s Office and have been almost exclusively representing juveniles here since 2017.
I am a mom, a lawyer and a cheerleading coach and I try my hardest every day to make a positive impact in the life of my “babies” here in Lehigh County.
I also love teaching. I taught Group Exercise as a hobby for years. After participating in three “PD Camps,” I joined PDAP as a faculty member around 2020 and have loved each training with new Public Defenders. I look forward to sharing my insight and experience on a more personal level as a mentor.
Our mission is to provide tools, strategies, mutual support, training and information to Public Defender Offices in Pennsylvania; to be the voice of public defense in Pennsylvania; and to promote best practices in the leadership, management, and administration of justice in Pennsylvania.
