Sawyer Davis serves as an Assistant Public Defender for the Allegheny County Public Defender’s Office, where they have worked since 2023. Sawyer is a member of their office’s Phoenix division handling mostly DUIs, drug possessions, and retail thefts. They also assist with the Supportive Representation Unit, helping clients with severe mental health diagnoses that result in involuntary commitments and competency concerns. They went to law school at the University of North Carolina School of Law and received their bachelor’s degree in Criminology from North Carolina State University.
During law school, Sawyer gained experience in indigent defense through interning at the Orange County Public Defender’s Office in North Carolina, the North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission, the Federal Public Defender for the Eastern District of North Carolina, and the Dillon Public Defender’s Office in Colorado.
They live in Pittsburgh with their 17-year-old cat.
Our mission is to provide tools, strategies, mutual support, training and information to Public Defender Offices in Pennsylvania; to be the voice of public defense in Pennsylvania; and to promote best practices in the leadership, management, and administration of justice in Pennsylvania.
